ISO 26262 (Road Vehicles – Functional Safety)

Technology is so integrated into our lives that we often overlook where it exists. For instance – automobiles. There is a lot of hardware and software that goes into things that drivers take for granted, including assistance functions, controls, and most importantly the safety systems. We often overlook these things, but would greatly miss them if they malfunctioned. That’s where ISO 26262 comes in.

ISO 26262 Automotive

This standard focuses on the development and testing of electrical and electronic systems relating to motor vehicle safety systems. The standard focuses on passenger vehicles that transport fewer than nine people and weigh less than 3.5 tons. This international standard used by the United States, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Sweden, and the United Kingdom is relevant worldwide. Automakers can often sell vehicles only after testing their safety systems under ISO 26262 guidelines.

PJR can issue a certificate of conformity to ISO 26262. In addition to hardware and software requirements, the standard includes management system requirements that overlap with ISO 9001-based standards, including IATF 16949. This makes it possible to receive a discount when you combine these two standards in your audit.
