ISO ISO 9001 Certification: Establish Consistent Processes for Quality and Inspire Confidence

The 2024 Climate Change Amendment Is Now in Effect

In February 2024, ISO introduced a mandatory amendment requiring certified organisations to determine whether climate change is relevant to their Quality Management System under Clauses 4.1 and 4.2. This requirement is already being assessed during surveillance and recertification audits across the UK.

There is no need for extensive restructuring. Most organisations can address the amendment through a straightforward review of business context and interested parties. PJR UK auditors are actively helping clients interpret and implement the requirement clearly and practically, without unnecessary disruption.

What Is ISO 9001?

In today’s competitive business environment, consistent quality is not simply desirable — it is essential for long-term success. ISO 9001 is the world’s leading standard for Quality Management Systems (QMS), providing a structured framework for improving processes, managing risk, and delivering reliable outcomes.

Whether you operate within manufacturing, logistics, construction, professional services, healthcare, education, or the charity sector, ISO 9001 helps organisations across the UK improve efficiency, reduce errors, and consistently meet customer and regulatory expectations.

Achieving ISO 9001 certification demonstrates a commitment to continual improvement and gives customers, stakeholders, and procurement bodies greater confidence in your organisation.

Why Pursue ISO 9001 Certification?

Enhanced Customer Confidence – Show clients, suppliers, and stakeholders that quality management is embedded throughout your organisation.

Improved Operational Efficiency – Reduce duplication, minimise waste, and create more consistent working practices across departments.

Stronger Business Resilience – Build reliable processes that support continuity and adaptability in changing market conditions.

Better Alignment with ESG and Sustainability Goals – Integrate quality objectives more effectively alongside environmental and governance initiatives.

Access to New Contracts and Tender Opportunities – Many UK public sector and private sector tenders require suppliers to hold ISO 9001 certification.

More Proactive Risk Management – Identify potential issues earlier and move from reactive problem-solving towards prevention and continuous improvement.

Preparing for the Future: The ISO 9001:2026 Transition Hub

The ISO 9001 standard is evolving. Is your organisation prepared for the upcoming revision? PJR UK is ready to support clients through every stage of the transition process.

The International Organization for Standardization is expected to publish ISO 9001:2026 in autumn 2026, representing the first major revision to the standard in over a decade. While the overall framework is expected to remain familiar, organisations should anticipate updated guidance relating to organisational culture, ethics, digital transformation, risk management, and sustainability considerations. The mandatory 2024 Climate Change Amendment will also be fully integrated into the revised standard.

Do Not Delay Certification

If your organisation is not yet certified, there is no advantage in postponing implementation until the revised standard is released. Achieving ISO 9001:2015 certification now allows your business to begin realising operational improvements immediately while establishing a strong foundation for future transition requirements.

Organisations certified today will be able to transition during routine surveillance or recertification audits within the official migration period.
